Asset Management Interface | RS for Desktop

Use Assets to support remote systems

BeyondTrust Jump Technology enables privileged users to connect to an unattended remote system to start a session without end-user assistance. Dependent upon your permissions, you may connect to any computer on your LAN/VPN or on a network with a Gateway agent. You can save Assets for frequently accessed machines. To connect to a non-Windows computer or a system which is not on a network, you can install a Jump Client.

The Asset Management Interface appears in the bottom half of the representative console. The list may contain Jump Clients, Assets for Remote Jumps, Local Jumps, Remote and Local RDP sessions, Remote and Local VNC sessions, SSH sessions, and Intel® vPro Jumps. Asset availability, including whether or not the Asset is in use, is listed in the Status column.

Assets are listed in Asset Groups. If you are assigned to one or more Asset Groups, you can access the Assets in those groups, with the permissions assigned by your admin. Selecting an Asset Group and then clicking Create auto-selects that Asset Group in the Asset configuration window. When you create an Asset Group or you add a user to an Asset Group or Gateway, the Access Console automatically refreshes to show the updated access state.

Your personal list of Assets is primarily for your individual use, although your team leads, team managers, and users with permission to see all Assets may have access to your personal list of Assets. Similarly, if you are a team manager or lead with appropriate permissions, you may see team members' personal lists of Assets. Additionally, you may have permission to access Assets in Asset Groups you do not belong to and personal Assets for non-team members.

Connect to an Asset

Browse through groups or dynamically search for computers.

To facilitate browsing the Jump Clients list, you may drag the columns into any order you wish, and then sort a column by clicking the column header. The representative console remembers the column order and the sort order the next time the representative console is launched.

In addition to browsing for Assets, you can search and filter based on multiple fields. Click Add Filter, then select a category. Enter the text you want to filter by into the empty filter. You can add multiple filters as needed.

Enter a string in the search field and then press Enter. To change the fields you are searching, click on the magnifying glass and check or uncheck any of the available fields.

Once you have found the computer you wish to access, double-click the entry, or select the entry and click the Jump button. This will attempt to start a session with the remote computer.

ℹ️

If you need to access Assets when no user is available, make sure the session permissions are set either to disable prompting or to default to Allow for unattended sessions.

You may programmatically connect to an Asset directly from your systems management or ticketing tool. If your search results in only one Asset, the session will start immediately. If multiple Assets are returned, select one of the Assets listed in the selection window and click OK.

ℹ️

For more information about scripting, see API guide.

If an Asset Policy enforces a schedule for this Asset, an attempt to access the Asset outside of its permitted schedule prevents the Jump. A prompt informs you of the policy restrictions and provides the date and time when this Asset is next available for access.

ℹ️

If you have permission to modify Asset Policies, the prompt gives you the option to override the schedule and start a session anyway.

Default credentials for Assets

When starting a Session that requires credentials, after selecting the credentials, you can check Remember as my default. Once a credential is selected as a default, it displays with other Asset details, and subsequent sessions start without requesting credentials.

When a default credential is set, the Asset details (accessed by right-clicking the Asset) include a button for Jump (Change Credentials). This opens the credential selection window, and you can either change default credential, select a different credential for this session, or clear the saved default credential.

If a default credential is no longer available to the user for that Asset, the next time they start a session with that Asset there is a warning that the requested credentials for starting the session were not found, and the option to continue. If you continue, the credential selection window opens and you can select a credential as usual.

ℹ️

Saving default credentials works only prior to starting an Asset session (i.e. RDP, Remote Jump, SSH, Database Connection, and Website). This feature is not available for Jump Clients.

Start multiple Sessions

You can select up to ten Assets and start them with a single click. To start a session with all Assets in an Asset Group, right-click the group and select Start a session with n items. The Asset Group must contain no more than ten Assets for this feature to be available.

Each session opens in its own tab. If an Asset requires credentials and does not have predefined credentials, you are prompted to enter them.

Start sessions automatically

You can mark a set of Assets to a startup group which automatically starts sessions after you sign in to the representative console.

Add items to the startup group

  1. In the Asset Management Interface, select the Assets you want to start sessions automatically when the rep console opens.
  2. Right-click the Jump Client and select Add to Jump on Startup group.
  3. In the left pane window, the entries are added to the Jump On Startup folder.
  4. Sign out and sign back in to the rep console. The items added to the Jump On Startup folder should automatically start a session.

Remove items to the startup group

  1. In the left pane of the Asset Management Interface, locate the Jump On Startup group.
  2. Select the item you want to remove.
  3. Right-click the item, and select Remove from Jump on Startup group.
ℹ️

  • The maximum number of Jump Clients you can add to the Jump on Startup group is 10.
  • You must have the Start Sessions permission enabled on the Asset section on Asset Management > Assets Roles page.

Copy Assets

Jump Clients and other Assets can be copied and assigned to multiple Asset Groups. This allows administrators to apply separate policies and group permissions without needing an additional Jump Client installation or Asset setup on the target endpoint. Users with the necessary permissions can copy Assets by right-clicking the Asset or selecting the option at the top of the Asset tab.
